DCA: Tray Etching

Here are what will likely be the final tray etchings. These will be 3.5′ in diameter and the yellow circles will be where brass end nuts are used to attach them to the tray itself.

These were designed in Illustrator and then I’ll print them onto glossy photo paper. The toner from the printer will then be transfered on the brass which will then be plunged into an nitric acid bath. The acid will consume the bras exposed by the gaps in the toner (the white bits here). After I rescue the brass from the acid I’ll patina it and then sand down the high spots (the black bits here) to again expose the brass. The patina will remained in the recessed bits engraved by the acid.

You’ll see.
