Nature Steampunk Feature: Crafters tinker with technology

I’m honored to be somewhat featured in this recent Nature article about Steampunk. Nature is a very high profile science journal that I largely only encounter in my life as a scientist. I think my thesis advisor will find it … let’s say … amusing that I’ve gotten a mention in Nature for my art and not my science.

That photo of me was taken by Dick on the night of the Edwardian Ball.

It’s been pointed out to me that I should be proud to have gotten the Almost Scientific phrase, “Dihemispheric Chroneater Agitator” published in a prestegious science journal.

It’s the little things that please me.

I’m not sure if everyone can access the Nature website so I’ve upload a PDF of article — click on the clipping below to download it:

  1. Hi Alan, I must say it’s an honour to be mentioned in the same article as you and Sean! I work with a bunch of scientists and they’re all pretty amused that it’s their IT guy that got “published in Nature”!

Congratulations, Alan… it’s not every day you get a chance to be recognized in such an ironically appropriate way.

The themes of tinkering, experimenting evoked here are similar to those evoked in the recent Nature feature on Steampunk. [...]
